C for Culture. Chemnitz.

There's a lot going on culturally in this little big city – you don't become European Capital of Culture 2025 for no reason. And you can help shape it! Chemnitz and culture: the connection has always been strong. With lots of clubs, theatres, cinemas, art and festivals, the city by the Ore Mountains has a lot to offer – and also brings you closer to a lot of unique industrial culture.

The art collections, for example – you can really lose yourself in Karl Schmidt-Rotluff's Expressionism. Or how about the designs of Henry van de Velde in the museum of the same name? In the Schlossberg Museum, you can learn about the history of Chemnitz, and the Gunzenhauser Museum exhibits classical modernism and 20th century art.

A hot tip is the pop-up cultural event "Begehungen": This art exhibition, featuring performances, readings and concerts, is held in a new location every year – in empty buildings, on waste land, once even in a former prison and an allotment garden site.

Everything is manageable and within easy reach, which quickly makes Chemnitz feel like home without feeling cramped. The central campus is more international than most in Germany. Every fourth student comes from another country, and the nearly 100 degree courses are increasingly being offered entirely in English.

Even the very young can start as international students. The "Campulino" daycare centre run by the Chemnitz-Zwickau Student Union on the university campus allows children up to the age of six, from several nations, explore and discover to their heart's content – 100 spaces are available for the inquisitive offspring of students and academics. Yet another reason why studying in Chemnitz has a bright future.
