Zwigge is Saxon for: Zwickau.

In the south-west corner of Saxony, with the Ore Mountains and the Vogtland right on the doorstep, and Bavaria and Thuringia just down the road: Zwickau is quite conveniently located. The first thing that comes into people's minds is "car city". August Horch's original Audi factory is located here, and Volkswagen is moving ahead with electric mobility at its Zwickau plant. Industrial culture still characterises the city today.

Zwickau also stands for music and art. Robert Schumann was born here in 1810, and the Schumann House has a fantastic permanent exhibition dedicated to him and his wife Clara, who was highly gifted at the piano. Since 2014, the city has operated its own museum, the KUNSTSAMMLUNGEN ZWICKAU, for its famous expressionist Max Pechstein, a member of the "Brücke" artists' group founded in Dresden in 1905. Alongside classical music and Brücke art, the Art Nouveau, the beautiful old Wilhelminian architecture, and a well-preserved historic old town provide the perfect setting for your studies.

Also of note: the many parks and even more numerous water features! Everywhere you look you can see water gushing from animal heads and fountains – lending the city a unique freshness. The banks of the Mulde River and the many parks and lakes around the city provide opportunities for much-needed relaxation between strenuous periods of study.

In "Zwigge", everything is at your fingertips: the close proximity makes studying easier and frees up your time for all the enjoyable aspects of student life. You can easily reach pubs, clubs and bars on foot or by bike. Don't miss the Alter Gasometer, a great venue for concerts, theatre, readings and fine art-house cinema.
