Magnificent. Dresden.

A visitor has arrived– and can't stop talking about it. Anyone who studies in Dresden will experience the city at some point. "Amazing scenery", "unbelievably beautiful", "totally green" are the phrases you'll hear – and there's truth in that. The more than 560,000 citizens of Dresden have it good. A fantastic location on the Elbe, a magnificent old town, a boisterous new town and an extraordinary amount of greenery make Saxony's capital one of Germany's most liveable metropolises.

And yes, there's also academic excellence. Firstly, because the TU Dresden has been one of Germany's universities of excellence since 2012. Secondly, because of the huge range of courses on offer with the best supervision. With nine other universities and the Staatliche Studienakademie Dresden (State Academy Dresden), you'll have no problem finding your field of study – and you might even be able to go straight on from there afterwards. Fraunhofer, Helmholtz, Leibniz and Max Planck: they are all in Dresden.

Dresden's city and night life is equally colourful. Around 45,000 students provide a breath of fresh air for the city, and countless clubs, stages, bars, pubs, theatres and cinemas ensure that there's never a dull moment. An unmissable experience: "Kraftwerk Mitte" – the cultural centre of the old town in the middle of a grand 19th century industrial monument.

Above all, the culture: With its world-famous museums, collections and galleries, the Saxon State Orchestra and the Dresden Philharmonic, the Semperoper and Jazz Days, the Kreuzchor and pop, dance and literature, cinema and film nights on the banks of the Elbe, Dresden has everything to make your university experience even more enjoyable. So much so that quite a few simply stay on in this city by the Elbe after their studies. How about it?
